Privacy notice

Short version: this site sets no cookies, runs no analytics and tracks nobody. The calculator works entirely inside your browser. Nothing about you reaches us unless you fill in the enquiry form, ask the assistant a question, or ring the number on this site.

Who we are

Cornwall Steel Buildings is run by Autaimate, a sole trader based in Cornwall and registered with the Information Commissioner's Office. Autaimate is the data controller for anything you send through this site. Contact us at [email protected].

What we collect

If you use the enquiry form: your name, an email address or phone number so we can reply, and the postcode of the site, or the first half of it, because the building cannot be priced for delivery and erection without knowing roughly where it is going. If you add a message, we keep that too.

If you reach this site from South West Steel Buildings' own website, your enquiry is marked as having come that way, together with the web address your browser says you came from (the site, not the page). That is how we and they know an enquiry began on their site. Nothing is stored on your device beyond this browser tab, and it is gone when you close it.

When you send an enquiry from the calculator, the figures you worked out go with it — the building type, dimensions, slab specification and the resulting quantities. That is so you don't have to type them again, and so whoever quotes you has something to quote from. Those figures are about a building, not about you.

If you use the assistant (the “Ask a question” button): it is only loaded if you open it. Each message you type is sent to the AI model that writes its replies, so it can answer you. The conversation is not kept unless you leave your name and number for a callback — then it is kept with your enquiry, together with what you told it about the building and the postcode of the site — or you ask something it cannot answer, when that one question is kept, word for word, without anything saying who asked it, so we can answer it for the next person. The assistant stores nothing in your browser and sets no cookies. Your IP address is used only to limit how fast messages can be sent, and is never stored. The assistant never sends you text messages.

If you ring 01872 306707: the call is connected through our telephone provider to our building partner, and your number is passed through so they can ring you back. We log the number you rang from, the time of the call, how long it lasted and whether it was answered. If nobody answers and you leave a voicemail, it is recorded and automatically transcribed, and the recording and the transcript are kept with the call log. Calls that are answered are not recorded.

We do not store your IP address. We do not use cookies, analytics, advertising pixels or any other tracking. There is no cookie banner on this site because there is nothing to consent to.

Why we hold it, and on what basis

To answer your enquiry and to arrange a quote for the building you asked about. The lawful basis is that you asked us to — steps taken at your request before entering into a contract — and our legitimate interest in running the business you contacted.

Who else sees it

South West Steel Buildings Ltd (company number 17078070). They are our building partner: they design, supply and erect every building on this site. When you send an enquiry, leave your details with the assistant or ring, your details and your figures go to them so they can prepare engineered drawings and a price, and they will contact you directly. They are the only firm we share enquiries with, and they decide their own use of your details once they hold them — so if you want to know what they do with it, ask them or read their own privacy policy.

Beyond that, the only other parties involved are the services that make the site work. They process data on our instructions and for no purpose of their own:

Some of these providers are based in the United States and may process data outside the UK. Where they do, they do so under the safeguards UK data protection law requires for international transfers.

We do not sell your details, and we will not add you to a marketing list off the back of an enquiry.

How long we keep it

Enquiries, call logs and voicemails are kept while the job is live and for a reasonable period afterwards, because a steel building is often discussed for a year or more before anything is built. We have not automated deletion, so if you want your details removed, ask and we will remove them.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email the address above and we will action it. If you are not happy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes

If this notice changes we will update the date at the top. We will not make a change that widens what we do with your data without telling you.
